Caroline 24th in grueling 15K classic NCAAs

After her superb finish on wednesday Caroline unfortunately came down with a nasty stomach bug and was out of commission all day thursday. She rallied though to throw down an excellent 15K where she was up as high as 15th and in the top 20 until the last lap where the sickness, course, and heat began to take their tole. She held on and actually sprinted to the line with the top ranked woman from the central region so nothing to be to dissapointed in. The east women really dominated the day taking the top 6 spots which gives you an idea of just how tough that EISA womens field has been this season, truly impressive. Congrats to UVM for taking the team title!

Caroline 16th! at NCAAs, Austin 9th at JOs!

Another excellent day for SLU Skiing. In the 5K free Caroline finished 16th, the best female finish for SLU Nordic at NCAAs is over a decade, perhaps longer but I would need to go back and research more thoroughly. She was 7th for the east women who had a tremendous day placing 6 in the top ten. She was also the top Div 3 racer in the championship field.

At Soldier Hollow in Utah Austin Meng posted a 9th place finish in OJ mens 15k freestyle race. Eric finished a respectable 17th.

Eric just won JO's

Just had to get that out there, as I've been receiving live-from-the-race texts from Steve who is coaching the Mid-A team. Eric easily advanced from the heats and apparently made a massive move to open up an insurmountable lead in the final and won by a landslide. Woohoo!!!

Great skiing, great weather in Bozeman

The trip out went well, an early start but we were in Bozeman before noon yesterday. Skiing was very good although blustery in the afternoon. This morning was much more pleasant, lighter winds and lots of sun, more fun to be there with everyone else training as well. Its in the 60s down in town, 40s up in the mountains. Picture is of Caroline enjoying the sun out behind our rental house. The chickens come with the house, as do fresh eggs. Intervals this morning went well even though the waxing was difficult with the sun heating up sections of the course while others stayed cold and dry. I had a hard time keeping up.

On our way to Bozeman

We head out tomorrow to Bozeman for NCAA championships. Include the alpine contingent we have 4 total qualifiers with Caroline as our lone Nordic competitor. Should make for a pretty easy week for me and Zach anyway. Caroline is racing so well right now that most anything is possible I think. I would not have predicted that her best finish place wise would be a 5th in the freestyle 5K as she has always tended to do better in the longer races but right now everything is clicking and I expect it to continue through next week so it should be an exciting couple of races. I will try to use the twitter feed a little more since we won't be as busy during the races.

I have to say that the 15 and 20K classic races this past Saturday ranked up easily in the top 5 most difficult weather I have ever seen a race in. It was very impressive seeing everyone stick it out and finish, and I was particularly impressed with Kelsey who did it with a cast on her hand/wrist from an injury in the 15K race two weeks earlier at Trapps.
Connor took some great photos during the weekend be sure to check them out, see previous post.
